OUR HISTORY

Seth Maerowitz (Co-CEO), Raghu Misra (Co-CEO), and the late Charith Perera founded ShipXpress Inc. in April 2000 based on the vision that rail shippers could significantly improve the performance of their supply chains through reliable rail shipment reporting and analysis via the web. This vision has since been expanded to the establishment of the leading supply chain collaboration platform for commodities and energy companies. 

The company’s first software application, ShipX Trax, was launched in late 2000, rapidly gained acceptance in the marketplace, and was adopted by Fortune 100 clients in 2003.

In 2003, ShipXpress began its international expansion by establishing a representative office in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Observing the need for improved back office accounting and maintenance services for railcar owners, ShipXpress expanded into rail accounting services (Mileage Equalization Reporting and Compensation Auditing, Lease and Repairs Invoice Auditing) in the fall of 2005. 

The company began development for its rail rates product, ShipX Rates, and made a beta release of the product in 2004. ShipX Rates is now a multi-modal software application that enables users to make optimal freight shipping decisions for rail, truck, and barge shipments. Energy and commodities companies depend on ShipX Rates as a critical decision-making tool for trading physical commodities.

ShipXpress extended its solutions to serve shortline and regional railroads with its acquisition of the assets of the RailSync division of Railinc in January of 2007.  The Railinc acquisition enabled ShipXpress to offer railroads a complete solution for the management of rail carrier operations, including transportation management, interline settlement, and car hire. This acquisition also added further depth to the company’s bench of experienced rail industry talent. The RailSync acquisition also helped to further ShipXpress’s goal of creating a fully collaborative supply chain software environment for energy and commodities companies.

ShipXpress continues to aggressively invest in technology to serve the energy, railroad, and commodities industries. In 2009, ShipX e-BOL (Electronic Bill of Lading) was released. ShipX e-BOL is now recognized across the industry as the gold standard for simplifying error-free BOL creation and transmission. Investments continued with the launch of ShipX Yard (yard management software) and the revolutionary ShipX Portal, a supply chain collaboration platform, in 2010. Nearly two-thirds of US ethanol production is managed by several ShipXpress clients who rely on ShipX Portal. Adoption is continuing rapidly across other energy and commodities marketers. This year, the company released ShipX Transload, a product which streamlines customers’ transload operations.

ShipXpress software solutions are relied upon by numerous energy and commodities markerters, traders, producers, transloaders, and receivers.

ShipXpress has also been honored with numerous industry awards. The company has received the Top 100 IT Logistics Provider award from Inbound Logistics for the past five years. In 2016, Supply and Demand Chain Executive recognized ShipX Portal as a Top 100 Supply Chain Project, as well as a Green Supply Chain Award Winner.
